After the recent regulations issued in Germany, here is a practical example of the impact of the new tolls in Germany on a CO2 basis.
A generic 460hp, six-cylinder in-line engine with turbocharger and intercooler, has CO2 emissions of approximately 224 g/kWh, which places it in class 2 under the new German motorway toll system.
The basic toll for a vehicle with a permissible technical gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 7.5 tonnes is 0.13 euros per kilometre. With the new CO2 emissions surcharge, the toll for the vehicle will be 0.257 euros per kilometre.
Therefore, the impact of the new toll for each kilometer traveled with such a vehicle will be: €0.257/km – €0.13/km = €0.127/km
In other words, the toll for every kilometer traveled will increase by 90%.
